Eating - On the Dorset-Devon border we are blessed with excellent local produce. Sheepwash Green has a well-equipped new kitchen, so you can eat very well at home, buying from the superb local farmers' markets and farm shops. For eating out, the area is packed with excellent dining pubs; there is good fish at West Bay and Lyme; or for a special occasion, treat yourself to Combe House, recently voted Britain's most romantic hotel.

Fossiling - The Heritage Centre at Charmouth runs guided fossil hunts throughout the summer. The best fossils are to be found on the beach - look in the herb garden, and you'll see some of our finds over the years.

Fishing Trips - Anything from one hour mackerel trips to all day fishing trips are available at Lyme Regis. Go to the harbour and see the blackboards outside the lifeboat station. Or buy a crab line and fish off the Cobb!

Riding - for all ages and abilities.

Golf - Clifftop courses with sensational views at West Bay and Lyme Regis.

Cycling - A Dorset cycle way passes through the valley - but it's not for the faint-hearted!

Shopping - The area is something of a mecca for artists and craftsmen. You'll find galleries in Lyme, Bridport, Beaminster and Beer showing work by local artists, plus frequent open studio events. For antiques, it's hard to beat nearby Honiton, with over 50 antique shops on a single street. For fashion, kids will love the surf shops in Lyme, while the more discerning can find outstanding knitwear, hats and bags by local designers. Gardeners will find it hard to resist the many superb nurseries in the area, as well as plant fairs throughout the summer.
